The Longwood Rotary Club: Scott Thompson Special Assistance Scholarship provides financial assistance to Kennett High School graduates who are pursuing further education.

Background...
The Longwood Rotary: Scott Thompson Student Assistance Scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of Scott Thompson, a 2002 graduate of Kennett High School. The Longwood Rotary Club, the Thompson family, and friends in the Kennett Square community provide financial support which funds an endowment administered through the Chester County Community Foundation.

2007, Amanda Macareth;
2006, Erik Diaz;
2005, Kera Passante;
2004, Sandy Ramirez; and
2003, Danene Hendricks.

The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving Kennett High School graduating senior, and is paid in annual payments of $250 a year for four years while the student attends a college, university, or training school. Award winners are selected by and have worked with the Kennett Intervention Team while at Kennett High School, and have an interest in pursuing a career dedicated to helping others.

The student's name is revealed and announced for the first time during the Kennett High School graduation ceremony, and the scholarship checks are presented to the student at Longwood Rotary Club meetings. It is part of the intent of the scholarship to give public recognition at the graduation to the student and follow up meetings with the Rotary Club, so the student experiences esteem building moments of achievement with family, peers, and supporters present.
