Natalie A.W. Leaf Scholarship Fund

Mission Statement...
In 1990, Miss Natalie A.W. Leaf established this scholarship to provide education in arts, crafts, and trades that construct, maintain, or restore the home. The only fund of its kind in Chester County, she intended to “help residents learn traditional trades" and to preserve the county's historical heritage.

Applicants may apply for funds to learn an art, craft or trade which involves building, restoring, or furnishing the home to create lasting value and beauty.

About Miss Leaf...
Miss Leaf, a West Chester native and elementary school art teacher, was passionate about the value of skilled craftsmanship.  Throughout her life, she amassed a large collection of antiques. 

In the early 1960's, Miss Leaf began restoring her home and was dismayed to discover a shortage of craftspeople skilled in the traditional trades. She refused to see these arts lost. Upon her death in 1989, Miss Leaf's home and antique collection were auctioned to create a fund for recapturing these arts and to encourage Chester County residents to
"learn to use their hands as tools."
