Natalie
A.W. Leaf Scholarship Fund
Mission
Statement...
Established in
1990, The Natalie A.W. Leaf Charitable Trust provides
scholarships for education in arts, crafts, and trades to
construct, maintain, or restore homes to create "lasting
beauty". The fund, the only one of its kind in Chester County,
was intended by Miss Leaf "to help Chester County residents
learn traditional trades", and to preserve the county's
historical heritage.
Applicants
must learn an art, craft or trace which requires working with
their hands to build, restore, furnish and create something of
lasting value for the home.

About Natalie...
Miss Leaf, a
native of West Chester, maintained a passionate appreciation of skilled
craftsmanship throughout her life, during which she amassed a large
collection of antiques in her house at 26 West Union Street in West Chester.
In the early 1960's, Miss Leaf began the restoration of her home and was
dismayed to discover a shortage of craftspeople skilled in traditional
trades. She refused to see the art of traditional crafts and trades become
lost.
Upon her death in 1989, Miss Leaf's home and antique
collection were auctioned to create this fund in order
to create this fund and to continue her mission of recapturing skills and to enable
Chester County residents to "learn to use their hands as
tools."
Help support Miss Leaf's legacy by enabling Chester Countians to receive an education in an art, craft, or trade
that will allow them to build, restore, furnish, and create
something of lasting value for the home.
